Helios House Press is honoured to present a beautiful, original version of Euripides’ play Alcestis as interpreted by Sonia H. Greene & H.P. Lovecraft.
First premiered in 438 B.C., Alcestis is a classic Athenian tragedy of sacrifice, love, and loss. Whilst a very limited, holograph (facsimile of hand-written pages) edition of Greene and Lovecraft’s version of the play was produced in 1985, the play has never been published in a complete form—until now.
Incorporating new scholarship from editor N.R. Jenzen-Jones and Classics scholar Carman Romano, this casebound edition contains the complete prologue and play of Alcestis as presented by Greene and Lovecraft, as well as an essay from Jenzen-Jones and Romano illuminating the evidence that this piece represents a deeper collaboration and a more significant production than previously thought.
Finished with brand-new illustrations from some of our favorite artists and a classic cloth quarter-binding embellished with silver foil detailing, this volume will be sure to take its place on your shelf with other Helios Lovecraftiana titles such as Night-Black Deeds.
“[B]ack in print—and in a nicer, more scholarly edition than ever before. Readers will be pleased to get their money’s worth in a well-made, well-printed hardback with critical explanatory essay.”
— Bobby Derie
“This publication of the Greene/Lovecraft reimagining of the first known play by Euripides is a well-researched analysis of the collaboration between the two, presented in a volume that is the epitome of excellent book design and quality printing.”
