Ink & Iron: Winchester Printing Blocks in the Cody Firearms Museum Collection presents photographs and details of a selection of printing blocks used for Winchester catalogues, advertisements, and other publications, alongside renditions of the printed images those blocks were made to create. Original publications made using the blocks are also reproduced in several cases, and the original models of firearms in the blocks are identified and, where notable, photographed. In addition to a beautiful selection of images and graphic artistry, the book includes information about the history and use of the printing blocks, as well as a discussion of the processes used to make the blocks and an analysis of the printing techniques and use types relevant to this material. The book is a beautiful, behind-the-scenes glimpse at early 20th century advertising and design, drawing on the Cody Firearms Museum’s world class collection.
